The Sarah Sheppard Ensemble is one of the three groups belonging to the
Sarah Sheppard Spirituals Association. The others are the Sarah Sheppard
Choir and the Choral Laboratory. The group is made up of singers and
instrumentalists who principally perform European and North American music.
Their repertoire consists of spirituals and gospels, protestant chorals,
Christmas carols and music by American, British and Anglo-Saxon composers.
They are performed with solo voices, piano or organ, rhythmic section
(double bass and drums) and choreography.
According to the Afro-American tradition, the music of the Sarah Sheppard Ensemble is always accompanied by rhythmic swaying and movement depending on the location (church, theatre, open-air).
The Sarah Sheppard Ensemble is available for concerts and performances in different formations. Sometimes they perform together with the Sarah Sheppard Choir, according to the requests.
